It's so important to take care of ourselves (mind, body & soul) or you can find yourself burnt out down the line. In today's world, it can be easy to neglect ourselves what with social media, working long hours and juggling our social lives, so here is a little list of simple ideas and effective ways to cleanse yourself whether you have five minutes or a luxurious whole afternoon.
1. Create a relaxing bedtime routine.
It's well-known that having a bedtime routine aids sleep and ensures we wake up feeling refreshed and ready for what the day brings. Turn off your phone, go to bed a little earlier, wear you favourite comfy pjs and swap that cup of tea for something soothing and caffeine-free. I enjoy a camomile tea with a dash of honey or the snore and peace infusion by Clipper teas which is an organic blend of camomile, lemon balm and lavender.
2. Switch off from technology.
With modern technology, we can be so busy texting, tweeting, sending e-mails and what not; so try a little time out. Switch off your phone or if you cannot face doing this (I must admit I'm addicted to Instagram!), try turning off notifications or unsubscribing to things you no longer need/want.
3. Practice mindfulness.
Whether it's taking time to really enjoy that cup of tea or admiring a bird singing beautifully nearby, take time to appreciate the little things in life. What little things do you appreciate?
4. Spend some time outdoors.
Go for a walk, have a picnic or simply sit in the garden, you'll be surprised at what a little fresh air can do. I know that if I am having a bad day, a walk with Ben makes me feel so much better and refreshed.
5. Take five minutes.
Make some "me-time" each day, even if you can only manage a spare five minutes and allow yourself to unwind and relax. Moisturise your body, paint your nails, apply a face mask or read your favourite magazine; whatever you choose to do is entirely up to you but it's amazing how the little things can make you feel oh so good.
6. Keep the space around you de-cluttered.
Spend a little time de-cluttering and getting rid of things you don't need. You don't need to have a huge spring clean but I find spending five minutes to do a mini de-clutter is much better and doesn't feel such a boring, mammoth task.
7. Create little moments of joy.
Add little moments to your day that make you feel good. It could be enjoying a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, taking a hot, bubble bath with a luxurious bath bomb or being of service to someone such as holding the door open or helping carry their shopping bags.
8. Treat yourself.
Don't forget to give yourself a little treat every now and again. Buy that lipstick or nail polish, have that indulgent chocolate cake... whatever it is, you deserve it!
9. Start a compliment jar.
You are you own worst critic. So the next time someone pays you a compliment, jot it down on a bit of paper and pop into a jar for safe keeping or use the notes app on your phone. I have a small kilner jar that I keep on my dressing table. The next time you're having a bad day or feel low, you can look at the compliments and hopefully feel a little better.
10. Check yourself.
It can be easy to put things off when it comes to health. Book that smear test, visit the dentist, keep an eye on that mole, check your breasts as it's better to be safe than sorry.
